Ex Let’s talk about Dee. One of the main characters in” When Life Gives You Lemons” and the first I would like to delve into is Dee. A character that reminds me of myself in ways, a nomad, with airy fairy ideas—she always has some big idea in her head that is going to get her seen! An outgoing type of person, witty, funny, always up for a laugh, but behind it all, there is a soft, sometimes lonely side. She doesn’t feel like she fits in anywhere, she doesn’t see what others see.At times, Dee’s adventurous spirit leads her into unpredictable situations, chasing dreams that others might call unrealistic. Yet, her charm and humour win people over, even when she feels like an outsider. Her journey is as much about self-acceptance as it is about finding her place in the world, and it's this vulnerability beneath her vibrant personality that makes Dee so compelling and relatable.Despite her outward confidence, Dee often grapples with feelings of doubt and uncertainty, questioning whether her ambitions are truly attainable. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear, even when she's struggling herself. This mix of strength and vulnerability is what endears Dee to those around her, and what makes her journey so engaging for readers.Writing about Dee was how this book came about, she opened the doors to Ballycullen and to her circle of friends and made it easy for me to get this story where I wanted it to go. Through Dee’s eyes, the world of Ballycullen came alive for me, with its vibrant characters and unique quirks. She was the perfect guide—her curiosity and openness allowing me to explore new storylines, draw unexpected connections, and shape the heart of the novel around her experiences.
